I had this vision several times when in deep guided meditation and in dreams: a sea ablaze, moving with a storm from under, serpentine swirls of fire atop of it, alive with green-yellow shades. I know I’ve seen it once, but not in this world, or this life.
Seaflame: the merging of two things that should’t, or can’t blend, but do. A sea aflame is an anomaly, a paradox, a conflagration, a specific kind of magical alchemy. Something held together despite all odds.
A sea is living breathing water that’s salty, like tears, and a flame is the body of fire. A sea is a body of water. Two bodies then, coming together.
A substance is defined as a particular kind of matter with uniform qualities.
In my practice I use a lot of substances: herbs, wax, bones, stones. I’m also an advocate for the use of substance to move spirit or activate visions, a friend of both mushroom and tobacco. I don’t administer yet, but I study with them.
The substance of something is what’s at its core, the real or essential part of something; a person of substance is a wealthy person, or someone or something that stands the test of time.
I prefer the word substance to the words spirit or soul because it is far more relatable and not so tied up in religious ideologies, while having a rich philosophical discourse around it for those interested in that sort of stuff.
Next to Seaflame, which is a website for ritual and spiritual services, I run an online publications called “Seaflame & Substance” - you can access it here.
